Item Consumption
Wood
If we use to much wood, animals like squirrels and owls would not have trees to live in. However, when we go to the store and buy everything we want, it is as if we don't see the danger many animals are facing.
Plastic
Plastic contains many harmful chemicals that can have a negative effect on some animals. Whenever we pile up plastic those harmful chemicals seep into the ground. Some animals can even mistake plastic as food.
Metal
We use metal a lot, but don't see it as one of earth's limited resources. If we keep mining metal and other ores, we might run out. Try to conserve as much metal and other natural resources as much as possible.
Wool
Sometimes we might buy too much clothing. Approximately 25% of all clothing is made from wool. Sheep have to generate all that wool, when, as humans, we should be using other materials.
Paper
An average person in the US uses 700 pounds of paper a year. It takes about 5,000 8-inch diameter trees to make that amount. Now maybe you'll try a little harder to conserve paper.
Rock
Rock is used to make sand. Sometimes it may be wasted to make an artificial beach, or a beach with sand that wasn't originally there. Rock also plays a part in the making of glass (see right), concrete, and brick.
Rubber
Rubber is made from a special tree called the rubber tree. If we make to much rubber, this species of tree could go extinct. Stopping mass rubber production could help with the fight against climate change as it would force people not to drive as much.
Glass
Glass is made from sand which is made from rock. Many everyday items include glass such as most cups and light bulbs. These are items that often break, so to help, try to use them mindfully.
Wasted Money
Sometimes we buy things that we don't really need. For example, if you already have some sneakers that still fit, there is no need to buy another pair. This can waste money for something you don't really need.
Wasted Products
Many stores throw away products just because they wouldn't sell. When this is thrown away, there is more than a 50% chance it will end up in a landfill or another place that would have a negative effect on animals and other wildlife.
Buy Resale
Often, resale websites like Ebay and Facebook Marketplace will have cheaper prices for a new or slightly used product. By supporting reusing, you can save materials and prevent unnecessary items from being produced.
